I’ve never done a movie review in my life but this movie shocked me so much.. let me say I have a very deep appreciation for art and poetry of all kinds— that said, as “deep and meaningful” as many people are saying about this film, it was one of the most wildly inappropriate movies I’ve ever seen. Where do I even start. Waking him up from nap time multiple times to “spend time” with her ALONE in the bathroom, alone on the playground, alone in the auditorium.. putting her number in his cell phone (since when do 5 year olds have cell phones anyways) & telling him to call her outside of school.. taking his call in the middle of intimacy with her husband and speaking with him while in only her bra.. calling him at another point and calling her self “Lisa” instead of ‘Mrs. whatever’ at night when it’s “close to his bedtime” “just to say hi” while she smokes a cigarette.. lying to his guardian to secretly sneak him out to a late night adult poetry event where he’s hearing VERY adult language for 5 year old ears, where alcohol is served in the next room, being alone with him in the bathroom THERE too after she runs to the bathroom crying because he said he loved the teacher’s helper Meghan instead of the teacher, then having him spend the night at her house without telling his father.. stalking him from his house to the new kindergarten when she got busted at the first one and kidnapping him and taking him to the lake where they lay out and swim, and she’s in a bathing suit with this 5 year old and getting way too friendly with him in the water if you ask me.. almost walking in on him naked in the shower of a hotel, shortly after which she is naked (the film showing her nudity) in the shower, him being in the room where she left her clothes so when she did walk out to get them she’s only wearing a towel in front of him-and proceeds to change into her clothes right in front of him— UM? A grown woman, and a 5 year old boy. It’s beyond wrong. Btw, Maggie Gyllenhaal is very talented from what I can tell and it’s no reflection on her. Just the story line and how graphic and disturbing it all was. In my opinion entering into the realm of pedophilia. I cringed the whole time.
