We have just been to see the Lion King and I can only agree with what has been said in so many other reviews that firstly the animation is totally amazing. It is difficult to believe the animals in the opening sequence are not real and the forest scenes are absolutely beautiful. My only reservation about the movie was that I did not feel the animals portrayed emotion in the same way as the original version and in fact the story is full of intense trauma and loss and a resurgence of joy and resilience which somehow was lost i this version of the movie. I think it was partly the difficulty in the lifelike animals being shown to enact some complex feelings and also the voices of older Simba and Nala being somewhat flat and robotically relating the lines. The passion just wasn’t there.
But other characters were still wonderful and the orchestral soundtrack and music numbers still worked for me- that humorous moment of the animals singing buh bum wee was perfect Disney...
