While I can see that the film makers where trying to be poignant and make a statement, to me, it is pretty sad that I was more interested in finding out what happened to the 2 guys at the end who decided to go back to earth...especially the guy with the wife and 2 kids. There was zero chemistry between Sully and the captain, and they were supposed to be lovers having a baby. I also find that there are many moments that are so insignificant in that particular moment that the viewer isn't really paying attention to it..only to realize at the end that maybe it would have been prudent to pay closer attention in order to make sense of things. One example is I can't remember if the crew in the spaceship left behind a colony of people on Jupiter's moon or if they are starting all of humanity over! If they are to be responsible for restarting humanity, then is it assumed that their child would have to marry a sibling in the future??? As for Clooney's character, I found it to be just "okay". I felt more interested in the little girl in his scenes than I did him, and felt his character, as well as the movie, was too similar to that of the movie Gravity. I gave it 2 stars for its good film making aspects in the fact that the space scenes were pretty good and looked realistic and the scenes filmed in Iceland where great to watch, as I felt really cold just watching them. Lastly, there is no closure to the movie. Lately, this seems to be a trend to let the "viewer" decide how they think it ended, and to me, that is just lazy and poor writing! Other than that, I'd say only watch this one if you truly can't find anything else to watch.
