Best "how to" step-by-step math series is the "Keys to" Algebra, Fractions, Decimals, Percents, Geometry, Measurement and Metric System booklets. Seen them used successfully with all grade levels. Takes you step-by-simplest-possible-step and builds the skill and knowledge level as if a math teacher is right there. Has all math concepts represented visually in images and common, every-day language. Even has writing in the margins with little 'hints' on the pages. Was very sorry these books stopped being published, because people are too cheap to buy these disposable books the kids are SUPPOSED to write in, fill out. Or, teachers copy them in schools and violate copyright rules. These authors deserved to be congratulated for the simplest, most thorough math booklets I've ever seen in my twenty years working in many schools and school districts.
