Spoiler alert : Made an enthusiastic error of catching kalank on the first day of release( and not waiting to hear of reviews, hence sharing this to save the planet !!) not suspecting the easy availability of tickets just 30 minutes prior to the show.
Kjo maintains the commitment of a multi starrer, glittering sets, designer costumes, shiny faces. Just that this time he made the mistake of trying to bring an element of artsy cinema, (seems like he is also fatigued with his candy flossy plots).. trying to pull off a La bhansali saga ..and what a mess he makes!
Not just is the film painfully long and boring at 2hrs 50 min, but in his attempt to give the film a historic feel, the storytelling being interspersed across 3 different eras makes it utterly confusing. The first half is a draaag and most of the story actually makes sense only in the second, but for that you have to sit through the first.
Varun and Alia bring in expectedly good performances. Sonakshi is conspicuous only for the tremendous weight loss she has managed to pull off. Madhuri probably signed the film thinking it's Devdas 2, just that she looks seriously aged( she was one of the bigger reasons I wanted to watch the film). Expected some fireworks with Sanjay dutt and madhuri sharing the screen after almost 2 decades, but their chemistry was awkward and diffused.
Wait there was one more character in the film- Aditya Roy Kapoor- his only claim to fame in this film is that the director let him survive and not die as an addict like 99% of the films.
Also the film ended on a note that has seriously concerned me- has KJo left scope for a sequel???!!!!
