This is a story that they hid from the history books. You never hear the stories of the Africans that fought against the enslavers, the ones that freed captives before they were sold into slavery. And this one happens to be a powerful all woman army, from West Africa the same part of Africa that America got its slaves from. Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashanda Lynch, and John Boyega all deserve Academy Award nominations for their top-level performances. I highly respect, and salute a Actress of Viola Davis’s magnitude for taking a role of this nature. Unfortunately this may be a story that the powers that be may not want told, so it may not reach the level that it deserves. However, a supreme standing ovation, a Black Oscar, and everything to everyone that played any part in this film. If you are black a person of color, or of any color and you do not see this movie do me one favor…
Look deep inside yourself, reach deep down inside of you and muster up the greatest strength that you can find, and slap yourself!
Speaking of slaps I must quote Will Smith “This is not a slave movie, this is a freedom movie!”
