Went out to see this in Melbourne last night. If only I had a 'timer turner' so I could go back to before I wasted money on this rubbish. The cast did what they could with what they had to work with and I would not fault the cast and crew. Technically, they did have one little production hiccup but honestly audiences and myself included are very forgiving of such things and if I was to give this production any score, I certainly wouldn't deduct anything for the technical problem. Overall it is a very technically demanding production and they did a fine job with that. The problem with this production is that the brilliant efforts of the cast and crew are all in vain when the written material is this bad. This play is pretentious and offensive with it's assumption that a big budget and a successful brand are going to be enough...It fails, you won't care and you won't be invested in the characters as it throws out the story writing rule book while it hitches a ride on the Hogwarts Express. This is why so many sequels fail... Stories need to stand on their own two feet, with an arc that lays the ground work and efficient dialogue that serves this arc. This trash failed to stick to the formula and was completely inefficient with long and insignificant ramblings...not to mention cliche and unbelievable plot twist. I actually struggled to stay awake...If all people leaving the theatre have to compliment is the 'special effects'...you have failed...There was not even one encore...I feel for the cast, they did their best but were completely failed by the material...I wanted to leave at the second intermission...guilt made me stay.
