Not quite as atmospheric as the original film but still very watchable.
Best actress award should go to Kristen Scott Thomas who was unnerving as the housekeeper, Mrs.Danvers
Loved the Monte Carlo scenes in stark contract to the gloominess of Manderlay.
For a rich man, one was left wondering why Maxim wore the same garish yellow suit for most first scenes and yet his soon to be wife had more different outfits than a debutante.
Mrs. Danvers didn't go up in flames, after she had committed arson at Manderlay: she jumped off a cliff in this remake. No witnesses to the fact, except the new Mrs De Winters, so was she pushed or did she jump scenario springs to mind.
Daphne Du Maurier was an amazing writer. The plot deserved to be kept to the original and not altered on a whimsical thought by the movie makers.
