It was true to the original with some modernization (ie-Jasmine wants to rule and is an opinionated smart young woman). The musical numbers are fun, the visuals are outstanding. Will Smith did an admirable job filling the shoes of the late great Robin Williams. We all thoroughly enjoyed this version.
