The music at the beginning was cringe. It reminded me of hippy seventies music that plays at the beginning of some 70s B horror movie. It was creepy, loud and annoying. It carried on even after conversation had started.
What actually caused me to switch off only five minutes in was the teenager asking her friend for a tampon. Then we see her taking the tampon while sat in the toilet Infront of her mate and unwrapping it with her underwear and jeans around her knees. The door is literally wide open and her dad is rushing around the house getting his camping gear sorted.
I get that the makers of this movie wanted to make it as real as possible, but in real life only skanky people cohabit in this way.
As a female I can honestly say my friends and I didn't do this growing. We didn't defecate Infront of each other either. And none of us sat on the family toilet with the door wide open changing tampons.
Oh wait! There was one girl who sat right at the top of the stairs inline with the front door, on the toilet with the toilet door open. The mother was generally getting off with a lad from the neighbourhood, there was a lot of swearing even from the kids, they always had scabies , impetigo and a lot of incest. And my siblings and I were not allowed to hang out with them, but obviously we did because we were kids. None of my other friends would ever live like this.
So yeah if this movie was trying to depict a laid-back family that gets along comfortably and family friends being just like family and it all being so wholesome the makers of this movie failed.
The second actress portraying the family friend doesn't live like the main characters do. She was lowering her standards.
Tampons aren't biodegradable either so she needs a mooncup for camping. Then she can rinse it in the river and they can all have trout for dinner.
Creepy flute music, young girl on her period going camping with two middle aged guys.
