This is a severely problematic book. Christopher is obviously neurodivergent, and Haddon claims that Christopher is just a "quirky" character. I am also upset that Haddon released a claim the Christopher is not meant to be on the spectrum, only after facing negative backlash. After Aspergers was printed on the cover Haddon should've released a statement, but he didn't. Although the book is well written, it focuses on how Christopher impacts the world, not how the world impacts Christopher. It's a problematic book, and an incorrect portrayal of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like all other stories trying to portray neurodivergent characters it relies on stereotypes, and enforces the negative stigma behind the disorders.
