Aqua man is gorgeous and so is his half brother, so the eye candy was great. Unfortunately, I did not find sufficient depth to Aquaman’s character. For example, I did not really get that he had a gift for speaking with sea life until he fought the sea creature for the Trident!
I really wanted to like the movie and may watch it again because I really want to like it. I don’t mind a certain amount of formula. However, it was formulaic to an extreme and I felt like I was watching a succession of music videos. I am disappointed in the role of Black Manta. I loved seeing a major villain played by a black person (I am black) but it felt too predictable and I ended up being more bored with the character than anything else.
That said, I hate to be so critical of the work done by others. After all, I have never accomplished half as much in the area. However, I wanted to feel something here. Something more. That said, next time (and I hope there is a next time), I hope that more time is spent in letting us get to know and like the characters and their world. The one liners and attempts at humor rang flat and although Atlantis was beautiful, there was not sufficient world building to truly appreciate it. And we had 2 1/2 hours to help with this.
