Not many films get me in sober reflection, questioning our humanity like a film based true story, where the ugliness and darkness of mankind are on full display, almost rendering hope and good helpless.
Minamata takes me to "reflectionland" where masterpieces like "Schindler's List," "The Pianist," "12 Years a Slave," "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," and "Erin Brockovich" reigns.
As a photographer myself, Minamata gives meaning to the weight of the responsibility to the truth of everyone that wields the camera.
I'm shocked and disappointed that a film as powerful and true as Minamata doesn't get the PR it should in a world that feigns attention for environmental causes.
Johnny Depp perhaps gave his best performance yet on this film and it is a shame that other unrelated events had to determine the visibility of such a masterful offering.
The entire cast and crew deserve a win for telling this story with pure truth.
If Depp ever deserved an Oscar, no work deserves it more than Minamata.
