I like this pack very much As a Chinese and Japanese chess teacher have found the book to be very informative and useful The fact that the prices are included with the pack is an added bonus With regard to the chess pieces the fact that the pieces are double sided showing their Origional ideograms (the Chinese pieces both with Chinese and western ideograms) makes listing a breeze The only issue had with the pieces were the Shohi pieces were a tad too large for the squares and had to be trimmed down And also that the pieces while a bit thicker are difficult to handle as still too flat They need to be of a thickness that you can pick up the pieces easily The rules are well formatted and the simple to read and understand On the SHOGI pices the pieces are double marked on both sides with the Japanese idiograms as well as the movement directions for those who can’t read Japanese The errors made in the CHINESE chess set also published by Carlton Books has been corrected and the correct movements are shown (In that set there was a room full of errors regarding the movements of the pieces and examples)( the only real positive thing about that set was that it came with nicely sized plastic pieces that were very easy to hold and move About 5mm in depth) As said above if they have to redo the set I would recommending banking the pieces of the set n plastic rather than in cardboard exactly as they have done with this set The added bonus to this set of CHINESE AND JAPANESE CHESS RULES and PIECES as well as the other games HANAFUDA (card game)with lovely illustrations on the cards and the original version of Chess CHATURANGA makes this game pack a very good investment On the one downside however is that all the rules are only in black and white rather than in color as compared to The CHINESE CHESS SET PACK WHICH IS ALL IN COLOR
