Riveting story line. Superb acting. Very interesting character development. The characters each had something relatable about them. What an epic love story! The struggle for power in an invaded nation...the impact of morals and gender roles...the impact of childhood trauma....how poverty sucks life out of people....what a gripping story with very fine directing! I loved this series and stayed up way too late 3 nights in a row making me late for work to watch this! Namkoong Min was perfection. He made the series. I will watch everything he has ever been in that I can find.

I loved everything about this series. The settings, the story line, the directing. The acting was simply excellent. We got a glimpse into an ancient culture and my respect for the ancient Chinese society only grew. The costumes were striking. The class system shown throughout. It was not violent gratuitously and when it was, it was not too graphic. But mostly I loved how these characters felt so deeply. It was absolutely heavenly to watch men cry...show their humanity. Fabulous!
