If you haven’t read the book, this movie will be, at best, difficult to follow. I had read the book, however, and though the basic story is intact, changes obviously had to be made to bring it in in under 2&1/2 hours. Nevertheless the characters are very well cast, and Roger Deakins does a magnificent job of visually bringing the book to life. The NYC/ Nevada desert/Amsterdam axis of the story is exactly as described in the book.
