I know that many people are upset that this isn't how the original She-Ra was back in the 80s but I think one thing can be said and I can leave the Google Reviews forever-
Stories are allowed to be changed, they are allowed to be adapted, and they sure as heck are allowed to reflect a new generation. I am absolutely gutted that tons of ADULTS are angry and basically spitting on a show written to uplift CHILDREN. I would have loved to see a show that had such diversity in skin color, personality, and body types when I was growing up, instead I was left with media that not only sexualized the image of girls/women but also made their role in the story seem farse when compared to that of their male counterparts. If they were "less feminine" then they were written with another stereotype - not into girly things? Dork nerd who just wanted to have a boyfriend. A little chubby around the edges? You bet she'd make some kind of joke about eating and then the non exsistent audience pre-recorded would laugh in the background.
No it is not like the old show and it was not supposed to be. It was not created to please those who have already grown and formed their own personalities and lives.
Yes its okay if these adults watch this show and enjoy themselves, I most certainly am, but I feel its almost childish the way many of the people online are acting.
Allow this new generation of kids to grow up loving this show and take this new version of She-Ra for themselves. The old She-Ra isn't any less important but it was a show for a past generation and I thank Netflix and Noelle Stevenson for Princesses of Power. I know that if I have kids I want them to have role models that are not only strong and independent but also reflect how they see themselves.
