I watched this movie for 2 reasons.. it was filmed in a small town in Washington, very similar to the one I grew up in and that I'm also familiar with, and I have a friend on the production team.
I usually give a lot of leeway to movies filmed in my home state, but I could barely get through this one. Both Edie Falco and Jay Duplass made this very uncomfortable to watch. That's not unusual for the former Mrs. Soprano but Jay Duplass' character was so adult-childish, almost developmently disabled, and that just compounded the skin-crawling vibe surrounding this film. It wasn't the acting, that was fine. Kaitlyn Dever's character is the only one that radiated any sort of warmth. Her moments on screen were the only parts of this film that didn't give me anxiety. I just can't put my finger on it... This isn't a "bad" movie, it was just very uncomfortable to watch.
