Euphoria, Zendaya, and HBO deserve at the praise in the world for this show. It's crafted and written with a lot of depth and includes a very important performance from Zendaya who eats her role as Rue, alive... she absorbs it and despite being one of the worlds most recognizable faces you can't help but see Rue.
First thing that I would like to talk about the cinematography. Marcell Rev showed up and decided to make this a showcase of his brilliant cinematography. From the colors to the shots (specifically the transition from Rue using drugs to her at a party and Jules coming out of the water) the show and Marcel Rev's work is a masterclass in cinematography. It goes beyond just being a compilation of shots and becomes a genuine piece of art.
Next, of course is the Acting. From Zendaya to Storm Reid, Hunter Schaeffer to Maude Apatow everyone brings their A-game in an era of shows where acting isn't really the priority anymore, favoring looks over talent, its a breath of fresh air to see a show where even characters with limited screen time still end up putting up fantastic performances. Maude Apatow is the example. The chemistry of the cast is magnetic. I would say that newcomer Hunter Schaeffer is a pleasant surprise, not missing a beat with any of the more seasoned actors on the cast. Their chemistry with Zendaya is of course the stand out but there is a scene with Jacob Elordi's character that illustrates their talent in the nuance of how they play the scene. Now, Zendaya really REALLY earns her Emmy. Zendaya perfectly plays this layered character with great finesse. There is a stand out scene that gets a lot of praise but it's worth, its the Emmy-winning scene for me and its a painful scene to watch. Zendaya is easily one of the most talented people working right now.
Lastly, the. freaking. music. I can't keep my composure any longer. The music of Euphoria is legitimately some of the best music I've seen in a television show because it's not just the years top hits it's music that elevates the show created by the ultra talented and underrated Labrinth. When I R.I.P is one that is used to great effect in a scene mentioned earlier. Labrinth captures all of the elements the show proposes and more allowing for each to elevate the other, almost magically.
