It seems people have forgotten "The Innocents" with Deborah Kerr. This is simply a remake of that film. But it has it's own darkly dark way of telling a story. While Deborah Kerr wore those amazing gothic gowns, Victoria Pedretti's wardrobe is pretty lame.
The mansion itself is usually dark. Seems like electricity is frowned upon. There is too much over reach in trying to scare the audience. And the beauty of the location isn't even utilized much. But all in all the mini series lacks the kind of freshness and originality that Haunting of Hill House had.
Most scenes are very dark and not so visible. You would think if a character feels unsafe in a bran new environment, they would turn on the bloody light switch.
If you're looking for some spooky fun then this series does provide all the cliches of a ghost story. It's pop corn entertainment. But if you wish to see an elegant retelling of the Henry James novel then go watch 1961's The Innocents. Much better film and better character study.
