The actors did do their roles justice and played as per their characters, so is it the bad writing which left a sour aftertaste?
The movie started off strong but has so many plot holes. There are so many foreshadowing of sorts comments made, or dialogues given like by Jennifer, "This will be the worst mistake you ever made", by Marla herself, "Fight me in court".
I don't understand how the Russian Mafia can just do such a poor job of disposing threats, isn't that weird? How inefficiently and unsuccessfully could they tried to get Jennifer out of the care home? Despite, being capable of stealing an entire identity of a person, replacing all sorts of documents (social security no., taxes, insurances, etc etc.).
How could Marla achieve whatever she set out for and more, in spite of being involved with dangerous people, and being just a family lawyer. And how much trust the Judge has on her even after all the hearings where she denies her clients from meeting their lawyers and families? Would a so-called empathetic and moral judge do that? Except if she bribed him, which is not shown.
The ending was anti-climatic, the movie falls shorts of achieving whatever it tried to achieve , and I lost any understanding of what the plot is mid-way and just wanted to get it over with.
