Rating 4.5/5.
This film is a masterpiece. I have watched more horror film than any any Indian might have seen (at least more than 450 films in last 10 years) including Horror-thriller, horror-action, psychological horror, Lovecraftian horror, cosmic horror, horror-gore, terror-genre, etc and anything you ever heard off of this genre. Pari partially belongs to all, but doesn't solely belong to any. Indian audiences are unique bunch of critics who clap for Hollywood flicks like "End of Days" or "Stigmata" or "Exorcist the beginning", but find it a joke when a horror movies has Djinn as its theme. Pari is not like "1920" or "Haunted 3D". Pari is the best-till-date Indian horror movie and follows the Hollywood-material just like the movie "Horror Story". Most people in this review section are complaining about "over-acting". If an actress shouts when scared, these critics say- "She is shouting too much". If the actress tries to portray "a girl shocked and scared to such extent that she can't even speak", these critics would then say- "arrey yaar, koi expression dikha nehi pati hai". The way Sharma acted in the film, she would have bagged the Hollywood title of "scream queen". And whoever complaining that the film didn't clear up all the facts, they are missing two things- first, the director has left the movie to a potential sequel. Second, the film conveys that every supernatural things don't have a clear explanation- because that's the mystery. Do read H.P Lovecraft's work to know how Pari act as a fitting "movie" in the horror genre. Besides, this is probably the only movie in Indian film industry which is both a "horror" film and a "terror" film.
By the way, some people are calling this movie anti-Islamic. The film projects "Djinn" as a scary supernatural element. It doesn't speak anything against Islam or Muslims. The Djinns are not "True Muslims" or "Pious Muslims", and showing Djinns as scary demons is not "anti-Islamic". Lol. Some people are behaving with such intolerance, as if someone has criticized some "prophet" of Islam.
