Personally, as of April 15th 2020, I feel this is the worst star wars book I have read.
WARNING: Spoilers below
The writing is juvenile, almost like a middle-grade novels (though I wouldn't recommend it for someone of that age.) and the characters are as flat as cardboard. There's an incredibly silly romance between the main characters. A horrible twist that could be seen by a five year old. And random cameos from movie characters that make no sense.
Honestly, I felt the protagonist, Dusque Mistflier, could have been okay, she's basically an imperial xeno-biologist and is struggling with the anti-woman bias in the Empire. This could have worked, however, Dusque is just a boring person blindly following Finn because of a rather lame inciting event.
The other main character, and love interest, is Finn Darktrin, is a stereotypical spy character. Also, the twist with him in the end was incredibly obvious and stupid.(also, the scene with him and Wedge was real sudden and weird.)
Another rather huge problem, is that the plot doesn't even come into effect until the final third from the book. The rest is developing an awful romance and showcasing Dusque's rather lackluster abilities. The plot is also incredibly boring, they need to find an information holocron in Jedi ruins on Dantooine. There's no struggle once they get their, they just go to the ruins and get it.
However, Tendau Nandon, an Ithorian that's Dusque's partner at the beginning and is killed by imperials, was a decent character.
I could probably write a book about how much a despise this book, but I'll just keep this brief. In short I don't recommend this problem filled book to anyone except people wanting to read the entire Legends timeline.
