I desperately wanted to enjoy this book as Lale's story was so different from other experiences during the war. The book had every opportunity to draw the reader in with the well-crafted account of Lale between 1943-1945 but it lacked emotion. Every chapter I was hoping to get hooked thinking that I would be drawn and invested in the characters, but the way to was written did not truly express the each of their emotions and/or perspectives.
