Anne Coughlin

Lots of wonderful elements just don't add up in this sleek but ultimately hollow adaptation. Andrew Scott is brilliant as always, but the focus the creators of the series took doesn't serve him well - there is a great deal of "what" but a few sparse hints at "why."

Poorly written, turgidly directed, relentlessly over and/or under acted by a woefully uneven cast.

Truly awful. I love Winslet and Rickman, but the script is excruciating, the acting is awkward, the leads have no chemistry, and the gardening/building part of the story is laughable. Very disappointing.
