*spoliers* I really loved the creativity of this story telling. There are hints all throughout of what the ending quarter of the movie would become. I feel like the people who were surprised and upset didn’t pay attention to the clues. I appreciate that the writing (intentionally or otherwise) drew attention to the idea that horror fans romanticize death with classic white aristocratic murder stories, but when the brutality is modernized it is a reminder of the awful reality of humans murdering other humans. Two things would have made this movie great: 1) a much more creative approach to the ghosts and a better focus on cgi. For a 13 million dollar budget it took a lot of concentration to enjoy the movie despite those cheap visuals 2) if the ending lines would have been: Doctor: the machine is meant to wipe your mind. You may not remember anything. Soldier: I still have to try. It would have changed the final look at the situation as a pointless doomed loop to having the heroic aspect that some people seem to have wanted.
