Erin Thomas – Google

As an art teacher, musician, and theatre lover I found it visually stunning!!! However the film version seems a little choppy and I’m probably missing some elements that were in the live show. I am very familiar with rap but even many of those scenes I couldn’t understand what was going on 😂. I love the Schuyler sisters song and King Georges song- because we get a more digestible glimpse of what’s musically going on inside their heads. I’m no history fanatic but maybe it could’ve been dissected a little more for better understanding. I gave it four stars because I KNOW a lot of effort and time went into this production. One too many songs for my Broadway taste and I would’ve liked more dialogue. But definitely give it a go!

I get that this is a quirky kids movie and there were some cutesy “awwwee” moments. But my God, what did they do to my beloved Shark boy and Lava girl 😂. Their original story was more fleshed out than this. I get that family plays an important role in Rodriguez’s films (with Spy Kids) and what not but they might’ve had a better movie if they focused on ONE main lesson! I just would have loved to see a continuation of SB and LG. However this movie had a few scenes in which I didn’t know if they were serious or if it was meant to be comedic (I still laughed anyway at some of the overacting). It kind of unraveled for me when the quiet, cute (spoiler alert) Ojo turned out to be an Alien who was like “yeah I’m an Alien- try and defeat my magical drawings.....I got you guys! I’m a good alien who has come to teach you a lesson- about teamwork! Could you imagine that happening at the end of avengers 🤣🤣🤣. But still give it a shot, it’s too cutesy to completely dislike- nonetheless you will only get 5 minutes of our beloved Shark boy and Lava girl 🥺😭😂
