If you like jump scares, slasher horror, and are looking for a little action stay away from this movie.
If you are looking for a slow-burn atmosphere, dread, and poetic depth then this is a must-watch.
As a long withstanding horror enthusiast this film lies beyond the traditional boundaries of horror filmmaking. This film falls into the art house category that other films like Under The Skin, The Witch, and The Shining fall into. Be prepared for incredible slowness but also intense suspense. Perkins does an excellent job creating a sense of dread and impending death for Lily, the main protagonist. This is a more “down to earth” supernatural film that uses quietness and subtlety rather than a cheap set of jump scares and idiot teenagers. If you are in for that thing then check out Friday the 13th. This film belongs to a small sub-class of horror/thriller art house that not many will understand. It’s plot is rather minimalist and incredibly vague as Perkins blurs the lines between the passage of time and the realms of the living and the dead.
