Terrific film and performances - but overly sentimental at times - especially towards the end when the children are viewed from outside the train window. This image captures their excitement and wonder at seeing the great city for the first time - but looks like a family Christmas card. Otherwise, apart from a few false notes like this regarding the children, The Fencer has its heart in the right place and the central performances are wonderful.
