To focus on the positives first, the gameplay is incredibly fun and challenging at parts. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, it helped me to forget my frustration several times throughout.
The story ruined this game for me. Several writers in today's world have forgotten that people tend to turn to stories to feel good and to escape the harsh reality of real life. Naughty Dog fell into a Game of Thrones style of story writing, where they completely disregard everything that their audience loved about their original game in hopes of surprising us, and in hopes of getting a reaction out of us. [SPOILERS] why on earth they thought that their audience who FAITHFULLY loves Joel and Ellie would enjoy playing as a stale character (who BRUTALIZED our favorite character) for the vast majority of the game, shoving her boring story line down our throats and failing to make us sympathize with her is beyond me. I quit half way through and had to take a few weeks before I was able to force myself to complete the game. Why is it so hard to give fans some of what they want? Its clear that Naughty Dog no longer cares about their fans. I've never been so disappointed in a sequel, and that's saying something. As someone who games mostly to interact with stories, this could not have been a worse experience.
The absolute best parts of the game were the flashbacks to Joel, and there was hardly any of it. It wasn't enough to make it enjoyable overall. I am giving this 2 stars mostly for the gameplay and graphics. I should probably give it less.
