As a massive fan of the games (still have yet to read the books), I went into the Netflix adaptation with cautious optimism. Fearing that the show was doomed to be another politically charged, 21st-century-social-issues laiden debacle (I'm looking at you, Disney Star Wars), I was pleasantly surprised with the wonderful sense of escapism from modern social concerns along with its supurb cinematic quality, surprising depth of characters and brilliant presentation of the source material.
Masterful job in the writing, direction, and production, as well as incredibly powerful performances from all three leads along with every supporting role. Cavill and Chalotra's performances in particular stood out as they NAILED Geralt and Yennefer.
Because the story is told in a very specific way (not necessarily in a traditional linear fashion), it was at times a little tricky to follow, however everything came full circle in episodes 7 and 8, though I can see how it could potentially be a struggle to follow if you're new to the story and characters. That said, as a viewer I found that I actually enjoyed the mild challenge of linking the events together. Presenting the story in such a unique and creative was certainly risky, but also somewhat rewarding for the audience due to the sense of discovery as the plot unravels. Definitely not a show for casual viewing without then risking becoming confused.
While Netflix's The Witcher more than met its nudity quota, it was certainly far less than shows such as GoT or Shameless (both excellent shows, by the way). However The Witcher has such compelling characters and interesting story that it honestly would have been just fine in the ratings even without the random topless scenes. That said, if we're going to insist on including it, why not shake it up with nudity from both genders?
Overall, if you're a fan of video games, fantasy and good story telling, I'd HIGHLY recommend this show as your next binge!
