Cliched but classy drama about guilt, loss and the importance of communication

There needs to be another level of award above the Oscar for Joaquin Phoenix. I am haunted by his Joker; he didn’t portray him, he morphed into him. I am astounded by the mediocre praise of the establishment critics: they make me want to put on a clown mask and shoot them!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and felt that Woody Allen is ‘a safe pair of hands’ - no longer edgy, past the weird experimental stage and now effortlessly competent. The sardonic Jewish humour nestled nicely with the playful romance and social commentary on playboy life styles. The score bubbles along, the costumes and scenery are ravishing; it’s the perfect Sunday afternoon movie.
