Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
- Review by Kady
numbered rating: 10/10
Reasoning:
This film is exactly how it should be. Everything. Down to the T.
People put effort into this, unlike many other money grab children movies, or films that know they’ll get profit purely for nostalgic reasons so they get lazy with the writing. But this film genuinely was made to be a great children’s movie. The animation is beautiful, it’s exactly how i would envision it to be from the books and it has the same joy in it that the original books gave me when i used to read them. It has amazing voice acting as well that really brings George, Harold and Mr.Krupp/Captain Underpants to life. Many would think this movie isn’t funny for the immense potty humour but that’s exactly what captain underpants is all about, it’s not just lazy potty humour writing, in this film, IT WORKS, it works like a charm. Another thing is that it hasn’t got some deeper message that teaches kids a lesson like most children films because that’s just not what captain underpants is, and i’m happy they kept to that. It’s just a film, with George and Harold being children, this film lets kids be kids and that’s the key charm to captain underpants, it’s silly, let’s your imagination run wild, let’s you laugh at whatever you want, and the animation really lets you see things through a child’s eyes (George and Harold’s) the bright colours of the outside world and especially their treehouse, in contrast to when they’re in Mr. Krupps house or office which is dark and gloomy, exaggerated like how it would be when i was younger. They really went out with the animation and changing the style to sock puppets or using their comic to tell a story, the flip- o- rama was amazing and i was wondering if they were even going to include it and how they would seeing as flip- o- rama was the BEST part of the books. If i was a child that had never read the books like most kids these days, this film would make me want to find and read the books. It was literally better than what i thought it was going to be by a landscape and i low-key wish people spoke about it more when it came out. Anyway, great film, 10/10, amazing.
