As a historian educated at Howard University, a former social studies teacher, and a visitor to London and Jamaica and Africa, I am so wholly thankful for this documentary. I am thankful for its detail. We among the African American community have known of our combined history and of that of the African diaspora throughout the Caribbean and the world for what feels like forever. It is time that these stories receive international attention and be told for new generations; and particularly for new generations of Euro-Americans who would otherwise be believing and perpetuating falsehoods in history. This is an important story regarding the truth of mixed ethnic people by a mixed ethnic academician and filmmaker which is so validating in today's world. A fact that receives little attention is that when there were no male heirs, women were slave owners and participated fully in the system that created world powers and denigrated Black people. The institution of slavery is at its foundation is economic and about the pursuit of financial wellness only. I cannot wait for the next episode!
