Since recently researching my family history i found this film relevant to my own family's story:. My husband's ancestors from Italy and my own from other parts in Europe at this exact same time. I assume these experiences were identical no matter the native language or country or origin.I found the film heart warming, sad, inspiring, enlightening and informative, I would have given it five stars had it shown the symbolism of the golden door, if 1903 was indicated somewhere where in the beginning of the film, and if it showed a sense of time the journey took.. I Only knew the year from reading the summary before watching, which made me want to watch, because that's the year my great grandparents arrived with their chilldren, separately, on different ships, at differnt times that year.
