Most reviewers rate this game at a solid 10-a true masterpiece. However, I would go beyond that and call this game genre-defining. Arguably the greatest JRPG ever made, the level of meticulous detail and painstaking effort put into this game makes it nothing less than a labor of love built upon an existing 25-year foundation of a masterclass in storytelling. The criticisms of the game including its somewhat lackluster squad in comparison to previous entries and often long-winded plot sequences are valid but pale in comparison to the conscientious amount of work put into the game. Atlus manages to perfectly encapsulate the nuances of daily life and the realism of its plot sequences into a perfect blend of daily life as well as doubling as a Phantom Thief. The game presents one of the most interesting antagonists in the series whilst simultaneously retaining the fantasy aspect through the presentation of bosses that fit within the series lore. Atlus's aim to take their series to cosmic dimensions lands perfectly at the heart of the series and makes it difficult for any contemporary game to compare. If a modern JRPG even manages to reach 50% of what Persona 5 Royal has achieved, it would be a major success in my eyes. I truly do feel that the game is ahead of its time and it will only be properly appreciated in the coming years.
