Spoiler alert . A fusion of love story and crime thriller, cat and mouse espionage and completely random and interesting side stories. This novel could easily be halved in length with some editing though. No more little people and no more stressing about this air chrysalis novel. I’m so happy to be done with it. The two moons actually frustrated me after awhile, what really drew me into the story was Aomame , such a deadly woman, so decisive like a venomous snake. Secretive and powerful. I see some similarities with kill bill (Uma Thurman) actress with her unexpected pregnancy and sudden need to flee her dangerous life. Tamaru is another very interesting character who is also secretive and deadly efficient at his occupation. Ushikawa comes along later in the novel as a repulsive PI , his character is very well developed and his true ugliness. I started to think of him like Javert , the policeman from les-miserables. So cold and distant from humanity, a true rodent. I really despise this character and that’s a credit to Murakami. Things were tied up quite nicely with the end and much more optimistic than part 1,s end.
