The characters I don't like are Alice and her deceased boyfriend.
I find it hard to believe that any woman of her age is so completely clueless. There is no excuse. She does not have an IQ below average, and sounds as if she had a decent education, but she apparently had no earthly idea what her financial situation was and zero curiosity about her boyfriend's financial status. She requested no protections for herself and their child if anything should happen to him. Not married, no life insurance, no active input into how the money was spent, just let him make all the decisions.
Her boyfriend didn't seem abusive, so I doubt he purposely kept her in the dark or would harm her if she had the initiative to ask questions. I can only assume she was just grossly unconcerned with the real world and was happy to be taken care of with not a concern for the future.
She also suffers from a lack of compassion for other people, and their losses. She is so selfish and self-absorbed and unrealistic. Yes, I know grief effects people in different ways, but her baseline personality seems to be rather unpleasant.
I have never met anyone like her, I'm glad to say. Her "ignorance is bliss" approach to life until the bottom fell out is just so irresponsible.
What sensible woman assumes there will never be a separation, divorce, illness, or death and just puts her whole life in a man's hands, in this day and age, keeping herself willfully ignorant of family affairs?
There are some great actors in this, but I couldn't finish the series because of the Alice character. It's not the actress, it's the part. I don't feel sorry for her, but I do feel frustrated.
