This production that sequels itself from the classic film (of the same title) from 1981, deserves great praise.
The acting is first rate & the production slick.
However as with any production, there is always going to be areas in which it's possible to be hyper-critical - as well as raving about it too. This new eight part series from Germany, is no exception.
Once you're hooked in from the opening scenes, the viewer is then taken on a compelling journey of intrigue, murder, love, trust & betrayal - not to mention suspense aplenty.
At times, this journey will have you on the edge of your seat, sweating nervously, fidgeting in your seat as you're not quite sure whether or not you want to continue watching.
For this alone, the producers & their staff, deserve great praise.
But, if I had to be hyper-critical, it would be that it all felt just a little rushed, as a series.
If the series could have been extended, to say, 12 or 14 episodes, to it would have allowed more time for the viewer to get to know & understand the characters that little bit more, as opposed to just meeting them, and not really fully appreciating their roles/personal character.
All in all though, Das Boot (2018), makes for superb and at times very tense watching. My score: 8.5/10.
