Martin Milnes' autobiography is filled with delightful and fascinating details about British theatre, television and film stars, Gilbert and Sullivan operas, and WW2 veterans, but one doesn't need prior knowledge of any of those things to appreciate Wild Card. This honest and well-crafted coming-of-age story is accessible to anyone; at least to anyone who ever wondered where they might fit in. The subtitle is "How I Learned to be a Friend, Have a Friend & Finally Love my Birthday”, and if “Wild Card” had to be summed up in one word it would be - friendly. A most welcoming read.
