Coolie (2025) is a film that starts off with promise but eventually loses its grip as the story progresses.
Story & Screenplay:
The first half of the film is engaging, with a decent setup, good pacing, and proper character introductions. However, the **second half feels rushed and poorly structured**. Multiple events happen simultaneously without a proper buildup, leaving the audience confused rather than invested. Characters enter and exit the narrative suddenly, without strong backstories or motivations.
While Aamir’s character arc and his boss’s backstory were explored decently, they still felt incomplete and underutilized. This raises the possibility that these elements were deliberately introduced as foreshadowing for upcoming films in the franchise. However, within the scope of Coolie (2025) itself, they lacked proper closure.
The main antagonist’s son, on the other hand, was a huge letdown. His role lacked depth, menace, or emotional weight, making the central conflict fall flat. A strong antagonist is crucial in a mass entertainer, but here, the villain’s presence felt underwritten and forgettable.
Performances:
The lead actors (specially Soubin Shahir) deliver solid performances, but even they struggle against the inconsistent writing. Supporting characters appear out of nowhere, contributing little to the flow of the story.
Music & Score:
One of the biggest disappointments was Anirudh’s background score. Except for one or two songs, the soundtrack felt uninspired and generic. Given his reputation, the music here clearly suffered from his over-commitment to multiple projects at once. The film badly needed a powerful score to elevate key moments, but the weak music only highlighted its flaws.
Technical Aspects:
Action sequences were stylish but lacked emotional connection, making them feel over-the-top without real impact.
Editing was choppy in the second half, worsening the rushed narrative.
Cinematography was solid, capturing grandeur in parts, but couldn’t compensate for the weak screenplay.
Verdict:
Coolie (2025) had all the ingredients for a strong mass entertainer — a big star cast, hype, and production scale — but fell short due to weak writing, underdeveloped characters, and disappointing music. The film shines in moments but crumbles under poor storytelling choices in the latter half.
⭐ Rating: 2.5/5
A missed opportunity that could have been a blockbuster with tighter writing and better execution.
