Honestly, there is not a single game I played in 2019 that made me as enthralled by it as Detroit. I started playing the game around 6 pm and didn't stop playing until around 4 am because I was so in love with its story. I'm a huge fan of the heavy choice and consequence genre games such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Batman: The Enemy Within, so when I finally played Detroit every aspect of it rang true to me. From the intimate story of Kara and Allice, to the intrapersonal conflict displayed in Connor's journey and most of all the social debate of civil disobedience or violent protest that Markus has to decide, Detroit successfully tackels heavy themes such as AI's evolution in the future, but more deeply its symbolic representation of the civil rights movement and slavery. Detroit will always be one of my favorite games because at its core Detroit is a compelling story.
