I actually liked the first series, however 2 and the train wreck s3 were terrible.The show no longer feels like it's sci-fi more like teenage fanfiction with the author screaming 'look at how diverse and woke we are!' Which is a shame as the previous trek shows dealt with race and sexuality with subtly and were forerunners. Discovery is about as subtle as a brick, story craft is gone with the plot being a bog standard as it gets go from a -> b with no surprises and make sure there's a 'oh no we only have seconds to save the day', 'oh we made it.' moment at the end. Compared to 'the expanse' which feels 'real' that has twists and turns and a compelling plot, discovery doesn't even come close which is sad, a missed opportunity.
