If you're looking for a realistic portrayal of the American west then don't look here . The first episode was actually pretty good, but after that, each episode was more ridiculous than the last . I was really hoping that this would be good, as I love historical dramas that are well done . in my younger years I read incessantly about the wave of people moving out across the American west, and the problems that they ran into when they discovered that the land was already populated . many were searching for different things, but all were searching for a new life..
i've read every book about mountain men that I could find. I would spend time in the Rockies trying to emulate them . but I digress . as for the series, sadly the writing is woeful . some of the acting wasn't too bad, but I truly cannot understand what the writers were thinking while watching this..
The scenery is absolutely outstanding, but that's just not enough to have to sit through this . someday it is my hope that great writing, acting and directing will all come together to create a masterpiece of this time and place in America . the closet that i've come is probably the 2005 film, The Revenant, based on the book about Hugh Glass, American frontiersman, fur trapper, trader, hunter and explorer.
