I figured I'd give it the old college try, let it have a fair chance.
I was not impressed.
The story felt rushed, and some of the characters personalities were changed too quickly, like teenagers with angst and not knowing what to do with it. Others become turncoats too quickly for what seem like the most contrived reason. Not saying any names, but there's some character assassination in both the literal and metaphorical sense.
I know it's not the original, and I don't expect it to be. I was waiting for it to have it's own tone, a feel unto itself. However it feels (in read) like a bunch of rats trying to pilot the corpse of the heartfelt warmth from the 80s, then just dropping the corpse at the get go, and then trying to be something else entirely after making that impression. You can't escape gravity, and I can't deny that it felt more like it was trying to double down on some of the darkness from Batman the animated series, but couldn't quite get there.
Some of the characters, yes plural (again not naming any names) felt uninspiring. Particularly one fuzzy guy who was basically a simp the entire series with no greater ambition than trying to (basically) "nice guy" his way into favor.
The after-show where they took interviews was the cast, felt like cardboard as well. Best part of that was the interview with Mark Hamill. The creatives and producers shouldn't be surprised if the show gets ratio'd, they knew what they were doing when they set up part 1 the way they did. We'll see how part 2 plays out, I may change my vote then.
The animation itself however... Was beautiful... I'll give it that... However, that alone isn't enough to save the series.
Until then, these are just my thoughts feelings and opinions, they do not reflect others. Nor should you take them in any capacity that would discourage you from watching the show. See it for yourself, make your own judgment.
