Politics aside, let's enjoy instead what the film actually focuses on; the story. First of all, for those who might not know, this film is supposed to be a parody or a satire of rom-com teleserye tropes. Which is why, for me at least, I actually found the film's story conventions to be very funny and enjoyable. Why? Because it managed to hit every single one of those telenovela traits that we've gotten used to watch from our primetime teleseryes. On the other hand, art-wise, that film was just a sight to behold. The amount of detail that they put on the animation and backgrounds was just mind-boggling. It is totally wonderful how they perfectly captured the essense of Metro Manila, from the jeeps, to the landmarks, to the billboards, and even on the hidden Filipino inside jokes and Pop culture easter eggs. Needless to say, I really believe that this movie will be a great stepping stone for Philippine Animation, especially since this was distributed on Netflix. Nevertheless, I really wish this film will inspire future Filipino visionaries, artists, and storytellers to express the beauty of Filipino stories, Filipino culture, and Filipino creativity and share it to the rest of the world.
