Patrick Dempsey wouldn't rate in my top 10 actors... actually I don't think he'd even make it into the Top 100 but he does a pretty good job as McNasty, the villain in the piece... I could almost see him in a James Bond movie
I admit I got totally sucked in... mainly because of the way real life news reports and broadcasts are woven in to the plot, giving it context ~ a period of my life I experienced to my disadvantage without really grasping the skullduggery that brought what came to be known to me as The GFC... the Global Financial Crisis.
I've never been on a trading floor but also imagine this was pretty accurately depicted.... the tensions, the rivalries, the blackmail and the loyalties no matter what, made it seem very credible.
What could've been a mundane show about high finance and ruthless warlords is elevated by the subplots and our hero's back and forth trying to figure it all out. I enjoyed never quite knowing which side of the fence he was on as he tried to untangle to web of lies and double dealing... his own included!
A couple of subplots I thought were redundant, however ight up to the end (barring one totally predictable demise) it kept me guessing.
If I have one criticism it's to enquire about the casting of Kasia Smutniak as our villain's wife... supposedly with an adult son who must've been at least 20...kudos to her for looking so glam but it annoyed the heck out of me as she looks about 20 herself.
Just heard there's a season 2 but reading the reviews I think I'll quit while I'm ahead!
