Overall I like the show. The only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the gore. I realize some people like to see that, but it can reach a broader audience if they toned it down a bit. The story and acting are well done. The seasons seem to blend together nicely. With all the recent fantasy shows that completely tanked, it’s nice to have something that is actually watchable. These shows being Wheel of Time, Rings of Power and Willow. These shows are based off book or continuation of other stories. I am not aware of Carnival Row being based off a book???? If that’s is the case then they have free reign to tell the story how they want, which I feel tones down a lot of criticism they might have. I think this is an important point for producers to consider when deciding to make a movie. If they want to make a movie based on a book, stick to the original story…. Much less likely to make a trash show.

I would probably suggest watching the show before reading the books. They changed a lot in the series to try to make things “politically correct.” I would say so much is changed it’s a completely different story. The show is well done and the story is still good, but its got Hollywood’s hands all over it. Same can be said for most books turned to movies though. Hobbit being a good example…. I still will look forward to seeing the next season coming out of wheel of time though. It will still be one of the best fantasy films out there. If you like the series though, definitely read the books. What bothered me the most was taking out some key characters and killing off the Ogier who has a much more significant role in the book. The Greenman should have definitely been in there. Also, Perrin had a teacher to show him his gift. Another cool character. And Perrin a vegetarian???? Silliness. The big battle at Shienar was not won by Aes Sendai. That was an important part of the story that was changed to fulfill their “politically correct “ agenda as well. That’s Hollywood for ya.
