This movie is definitely one of my favourites of all time. Some of the scenes are the best. I think most of the negative reviews are either by people who don't want to analyse art or don't care for it. The sceneography, lighting and acting were all amazing -- themes such as family, masculinty (toxic and almost animalistic masculinty, which also leads into mental illness), power dynamics between police and normal civillians are all addressed in this film, and quite beautifully I might add. For an Australian film it was quite esquisite. It's one of those films you cannot take for face value, you have to analyse it and look deeper into it. No, it was not supposed to give you a factual recount of Australian history and the Kelly Gang. It was supposed to make us questioon ourselves, how far is too far for family? Is it love if we love them out of fear of what might happen if we don't? Is a good man still a good man if he is forced to be bad by circumstances out of control? It's a great film.
