This is my favorite SG. I know why some fans don't love it. When I went back and watched SG Atlantis, it was more light hearted and serial. I think of this as the Empire of SG. It is darker and the inner personal struggles are fantastic. If you have not watched it, do yourself a favor and watch it. It is great!
